Woohoo! Exciting News!

Hi Everyone!

I have some exciting news to share! Towards the end of last year, while flicking through a copy of Australian Simply Cards magazine, I came across the "Cardmaker of the Year 2013" competition.

It looked pretty straight forward, and the picture of the prizes looked fab... so I thought, "Why not? I might win a gift voucher or something!"

It was open to Australian and New Zealand residents, and I had to send three cards of any occasion/theme, which showed "initiative and original ideas... good use of both colour and style... a range of intermediate and advanced techniques... and should include up-to-date products and popular trends."

I had actually only found the article just before the due date, so without time to make anything special, I just sent off the last few cards I'd made. (They didn't have to be new)

Then I forgot about it... and didn't hear anything more for several months.

Roll on to the end on March, and I realised I had never received my cards back (I'd sent the SAE for return), so I rang Practical Publishing and enquired if they'd been sent out yet. The guy told me they'd been overwhelmed with responses so hadn't got them sent out yet, but that the winners had been notified the day before. If I hadn't received an email then I didn't win anything. I said, "oh no I wasn't expecting to win anything, I was just checking if the cards had been sent back yet."

Then I realised that I hadn't checked my emails for a couple of days... when I did, guess what was there??? YEP! An email from Simply Cards Magazine congratulating me on being a Runner-Up! Except I wasn't allowed to tell anyone until it was announced in the magazine. :)

And now here it is...  I am Shannah Bartle - Australian Cardmaker of the Year 2013 Runner-up ;)

Oh and the prize? A fabulous $500 worth of craft stash from the competition sponsors! Not bad at all! :) My cards, along with the winner and other fabulous runners-up are in the current (Issue 66) of Australian Simply Cards Magazine.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement... and if you're ever tempted to enter a competition just give it a go, you never know what could happen! :) Hope you all have a wonderful week!

I also love that these "Mini Chalkboards" sentiments fit perfectly in the centre! I just added some embellishments and it was done.

Hope you like my card!

Whimsy Stamps March Rubber & Die Release - Final Day!

Hi everyone and welcome to the final day of the Whimsy Stamps March Rubber & Die Release week!

Today the Whimsy DT is holding a blog hop to share creations made with the brand new Wee Stamps and Time 4 Tea Designs stamps that were released on Wednesday. All of our March release is now available to buy from the Whimsy Store and all good Whimsy Stamps retailers!

We have hidden FOUR prizes of 2 new release rubber stamps somewhere on the DT’s blogs throughout the 5-day release event.  As the location of the prizes are secret, be sure to leave a comment on ALL the stops on each daily blog hop to maximize your chance of winning! We will draw the lucky winners over the weekend and announce them here on the Whimsy blog on Monday (March 24th).

For my card today I used the adorable new "Pretty Petals" by Time 4 Tea Designs,  along with a sentiment from the fab new set from SC Designs Collection, "Girl Talk". I seriously had problems with this set... but instead of my usual problem of not being able to find a sentiment to match my card/image, my problem was deciding which one to use! I LOVE this set and see myself using it a LOT - especially with 3 nieces. It will be perfect for all sorts of little girl (and big girl!) cards!

The papers are from a digital kit by Sweet Shoppe Designs called "Be You: Hopeful", and I also paper-pieced her pretty little dress with this. The image is coloured with Copics (listed below), then fussy cut out and mounted with foam for extra dimension.

I finished it off with just a few roses and pearls. Hope you like it!

This month, Whimsy has something extra for you! Kit & Clowder is an online coloring community run by Alyce Keegan. The Kit & Clowder DT are hosting a special joint release party event today, which includes a special blog hop showcasing Whimsy’s March release. So today's Whimsy DT are also sharing their creations in this second hop! There is a $25 gift voucher up for grabs as a prize for the Kit and Clowder release party, and details of how to enter can be found over at Kit & Clowder.

For today’s card I've used one of Cathy Delanssay's new stamps called "In Winter". I'm loving this sweet whimsical range of images!
I've also used the new "Spring Notables 8" and "Notables 8 Die" by Raindrop Echo Designs, and an older Whimsy Shapeology Die, "Tall Timber Die". (The "Tall Timber Die" is now a Retiring Product so grab it quick while its still available - and at a clearance price!)

The rich red background paper is from Kaisercraft "Key to My Heart" 6x6 paper pad, and I coloured the image with Copics, aiming for  'Autumnal' colours. I sponged around the edge with Distress Ink 'Antique Linen', and then framed with a Nestabilities Fleur de Lis Rectangle.

I added the sentiment and trees (with a touch of stickles), and then finished with Fun Flock for her hood and a few pearls.

Hope you like it!
See you again on Friday for another new release card!

Whimsy Inspiration - I Love You

Hi Everyone!

Just popping in today to share this card I made using Simonne Clay's fab new sentiment set from the latest Whimsy Stamps New Release.
It is the "All You Need Is Love" from SC Designs Collection, and I teamed it with "Fancy Square Dies" from Raindrop Echo Designs.

I stamped "I Love You" three times with red and black inks, and framed it with the Fancy Square.

Bending the sides of the frame up slightly, and mounting on foam gave extra dimension to the framed centrepiece. (Here's a closeup so you can see the 'shaping'.)

I finished with a simple bow and a few tiny pearls to highlight the frame.

Hope you like my card, and hope you have a fab week!

Here's what I used on my card:
Whimsy Stamps Products:"All You Need Is Love" set from SC Designs Collection and "Fancy Square Die" from Raindrop Echo Designs  both available at Whimsy Stamps.
Colouring Medium/Ink: Memento 'Memento' & 'London Fog' Ink, Distress Ink 'Festive Berries';
Papers: Cardstock - SU; DP - Sweet Shoppe Designs "Forever Mine" Digital papers;
Embellishments: Want2Scrap 'Gun Metal' Pearls, Wild Orchid Crafts 'Red' Satin Ribbon;
Tools/Other: Cuttlebug and Embossing Mat, Mounting Foam.

 Oh well! I had fun using a new technique and got to use my neglected H20's! ;)
